How to choose tiles?

When decorating, brick is a building material that is inevitable. But many consumers do not know how to choose bricks. What are polished tiles, glazed tiles, and vitrified tiles? Today in this article, I will briefly introduce you to several common tiles and teach you how to identify and buy them.

 Common 4 types of tiles

Before choosing a tile, you must first understand the types of tiles. There are many types of tiles. The most commonly used are the following four types, which are introduced below.

1.Polished tiles

Features: smooth surface, hard and wear-resistant. However, it is easy to be dirty, and the anti-slip performance is not very good.

Applicable space: In places other than toilets and kitchens, floor tiles are not recommended.

Polished brick is a kind of bright brick made by grinding / polishing the surface of the whole body brick, which belongs to a kind of whole body brick. Compared to whole-body tiles, polished tiles have a much smoother surface.

Polished tiles are hard and abrasion resistant and suitable for use in most indoor spaces except toilets and kitchens. Based on the application of infiltration technology, polished tiles can make a variety of stone-like and wood-like effects. Polished tiles are easily soiled and have poor slip resistance.

2.Vitrified brick

Features: high density and harder, smooth surface, dirt resistance, high wear resistance.

Applicable space: living room, dining room

Vitrified tile is a kind of porcelain tile fired at high temperature, and it is the hardest type of all tiles. Vitrified bricks have higher technical requirements than polished bricks. Requires a better press, capable of pressing higher density, higher firing temperature, and full porcelain.

Vitrified tiles are enhanced polished tiles. The surface is bright without polishing. Can be more resistant to dirt. Polished tiles and vitrified tiles are relatively beautiful, but vitrified tiles have high wear resistance and are generally used in living rooms.

3. Glazed tiles

Features: rich color pattern, good non-slip performance, slightly poor wear resistance.

Applicable space: kitchen, bathroom

Glazed tiles are made by firing on the surface of the embryo body. The main body is divided into two types: pottery and porcelain. The back made from clay is red, and the back made from porcelain is off-white.

Various patterns and patterns can be made on the surface of the glazed tile. More colorful and polished than polished tiles. Because the surface is glaze, the wear resistance is not as good as polished tiles and vitrified tiles. The identification of glazed tiles depends on the water absorption in addition to the size.

Generally good brick presses are good, with high density, high firing temperature, and low water absorption. Glazed tiles are commonly used in kitchens and bathrooms. Rich color pattern, good anti-slip performance.

4.Mosaic

Features: strong resistance to pressure, not easy to break, various colors, and wide use.

Applicable space: bathroom, kitchen, exterior wall, swimming pool, etc.

Mosaic tiles are one of the more decorative building materials used for floor and wall decoration. Mosaic is exquisite, small, and various in color. It can be used to spell various beautiful patterns. The decorative effect on the wall and floor is far more than ordinary wall and floor tiles.

There are many types of mosaics, many specifications, thin and small, hard texture, acid resistance, alkali resistance, abrasion resistance, impermeability to water, strong resistance to pressure, not easy to break, various colors, and wide use.

 How to choose tiles?

1.Look at the reflection

Observe the color and flatness of the tile surface. Generally, the clearer and more reflective the tiles are, the better. Also, check to see if there are pinholes. Pinholes tend to accumulate stolen goods. You can also look at the quality from the traces and check the surface quality of the tile. You can use a hard object to scratch the tile glaze to determine the surface of the tile.

2, piece together to see the size

Measured at the site where the tile was purchased. Measure with a ruler or tape measure on the four sides and diagonals of the tile and check the dimensions.

3. Touch the glaze

Look at the glazed surface for pinholes, spots, glazed texture, and color difference. It is mainly to see whether there are black spots, bubbles, pinholes, cracks, scratches, stains, edges, corners, etc. on the surface of the tile. Also pay attention to whether there are defects such as leakage and polishing.

4.Knock on the surface to hear the sound

Tap the tiles and hear the density. The most important thing when choosing a tile is to consider the quality issue. There are many standards for distinguishing the quality of the tile. Tapping can be performed. The clear sound indicates that the tile has a high porcelain density and good quality.

5.Dripping look durable

Look at the water absorption of the tiles. Generally speaking, the low water absorption rate of a tile means that the higher the inherent stability of the tile, the more suitable it is for spaces with high moisture or moisture content, such as bathrooms and kitchens, and it will not cause problems such as dark spots. A common method to check the water absorption of a tile is to pour water on the back of the tile. Tiles that penetrate slowly or even do not penetrate are of good quality, and vice versa.

 How do I buy tiles?

1. Calculation of dosage

Tiles can be sold in blocks or in square meters. The area to be paved should be calculated before purchasing tiles. Some charts can find out the amount of tiles as long as they know the height and width of the tiled wall. Some ceramic packaging boxes will also indicate the size of a box of ceramic tiles.

Roughly calculated, the area of 80 square meters can be calculated as 640 tiles of about 14cm square or 320 tiles of 20cm square. After calculating the total, a certain amount of spare should be added, because it is inevitable that there will be losses during paving. You can also use this formula to roughly calculate the amount of tiles needed:

(Decorative area ÷ area of each tile) × (1 + 3%)

Is the number of tiles required during construction, of which 3% is the amount of construction loss.

2.Color selection

There are many types of tiles and many colors, but what you need to know is whether the selected color and style meet the requirements for use. For example, in the kitchen, in general, in order to facilitate cleaning, light-colored, white tiles are the most common. The choice of bright or matte, dark or light tiles in the bathroom is recommended.

For home decoration, it is better to choose matte tiles; try to use floor tiles instead of floor tiles in study rooms and children’s rooms; if you use polished tiles, try to keep small lights in your home, and avoid direct light or reflections that affect your eyes; Colored tiles are more reflective and are not suitable for large-area use in living rooms.

3.Size selection

The size of the tile should consider the size of the visible space. If there are many places in the living room that are blocked by furniture, that is, the actual visible size of the person when using the floor, if the visible area is small, a smaller size should also be considered. of.

Or consider the length and width ratio and size of the living room. As far as the effect is concerned, it is better to tile all the tiles, which means that as far as possible, there are no tiles or fewer tiles to reduce the waste. Generally speaking, tiles The larger the specifications, the greater the waste.
